PETITION FOR ACCESS TO EFFECTIVE MEDICAL CARE FOR PATIENTS!
To Attorney General Blumenthal — Access to Effective Medical Care:
*As citizens of Connecticut, we believe that published treatment guidelines determining our medical care should be developed justly and fairly so that ALL people are assured access to the most effective health care.
*We applaud Attorney General Blumenthal for standing up to the injustice caused by the IDSA guidelines for the treatment of Lyme disease and investigating conflicts of interest in the guideline development process. The IDSA guidelines leave patients seriously ill and permit insurers to deny reimbursement for essential medical care.
*The AG investigation uncovered numerous conflicts of interest on the guidelines panel and resulted in a Settlement Agreement requiring review of the guidelines. Evidence shows the IDSA's review process violated that agreement.
*We strongly urge the AG to hold the IDSA legally accountable for violating this agreement and to vigorously investigate voting and other process irregularities. Doing so not only protects the lives of people with Lyme disease, but also benefits all citizens of Connecticut by requiring that medical societies develop guidelines in an unbiased manner that holds the interests of patients paramount.
