From the Center for Lyme Action:

In good news, we are excited to announce that the House Appropriations Committee has approved the following increases for Lyme, alpha-gal, and other tick-borne diseases:

• +$1M for CDC vector-borne diseases (now $65.6M)
• +$10M NIH Lyme and tick-borne disease research setting the new minimum spend to $120M
• +$1M CDC Lyme disease (now $28M)
• $5M LymeX to be managed by the HHS Office of the Secretary

The House Appropriations Committee approved the Labor HHS Appropriations Bill on June 9 with a vote of 34-28. This bill is awaiting further action for a vote on the House floor, and we will keep you updated as we learn more.

We are also very pleased to see the inclusion of many of our report language requests in the bill report. Report language plays an essential role in the congressional consideration of appropriations measures and affects how federal agencies interpret and obligate the funds provided in those measures.

Although funding and other directives that appear only in report language do not establish a statutory requirement, the Appropriations Committees generally expect that the agencies comply with a report’s directives.

Overall, this is a wonderful result given the very difficult appropriations climate in Washington, D.C. Congratulations to all! This progress is a testament to our collective, persistent advocacy!
