SUMMARY:WEBINAR: Pediatric neuroborreliosis in autism\, PANS\, anxiety\, and OCD
DESCRIPTION:From ILADS: \nJoin us for a presentation on neuropsychiatric manifestations of neuroborreliosis in the pediatric population: connections with autism\, PANS\, anxiety\, and OCD from Dr. James Neuenschwander. \nDate and time: Thursday\, April 11\, 7 to 8 pm Eastern Time \nWe have all seen the child behavioral problems: autism\, severe OCD\, oppositional defiant behaviors\, and severe anxiety.  Are these truly psychiatric issues?  In this discussion\, we will review the neuropsychiatric manifestations of neuroborreliosis and related vector borne illness.  This discussion will include some of the physiology of how these illnesses can manifest as behavioral/psychiatric disorders and be frequently misdiagnosed and treated as such.  We will review the state of the science on recognizing\, diagnosing\, and treating these syndromes from both a traditional and integrative perspective. \nObjectives: \n\nReview the differences between the pediatric versus adult population when it comes to vector borne illnesses\nDiscuss the frequency of neuroborreliosis and related conditions in the pediatric population and how this differs from adults.\nReview presenting symptoms of these conditions and the importance of recognizing when a psychiatric condition may be a reflection of a vector borne illness.\nIdentify tools for diagnosis and treatment of neuropsychiatric manifestations of vector borne illnesses in the pediatric population.\n\nRegistration fee: Free for ILADS members/$49 for non-members \nAbout the presenter: James A. Neuenschwander\, MD \nDr. Neuenschwander\, MD (aka Dr. Neu) is a graduate of the University of Michigan Medical school and is dually board-certified in both Emergency Medicine as well as Integrative and Holistic Medicine.  He has practiced integrative medicine in Ann Arbor\, Michigan since 1988 and has focused on the treatment of medically complex children and adults including those on the autism spectrum as well as those impacted by post-infectious and toxin induced illnesses.  He is a long time member of multiple professional organizations including ILADS and is the current president of the Medical Academy of Pediatric Special Needs (MAPS)–an organization dedicated to the integrative treatment of children. \nClick here to register. \n
