Educational on-line module

How A Tick Can Make You Sick

Lyme Disease Prevention Lesson for Children and Adults

Educators, camp counselors, and others who work with students/children can successfully use this tool with audiences from middle school through adult. A few slides are a bit more complex, e.g., slides on co-infections, and the presenter can gloss over them with younger students.

The module is:

  • Free
  • Can run from the Internet
  • Can download and print the presentations
  • Audio pronunciation guide
  • Pre- and Post-Tests included

The Lyme Disease Association developed this slide show after working in schools for almost 20 years. Doctors, a family psychotherapist, a school district special services director (retired), a microbiologist, a teacher, Lyme disease group leaders, and kids have reviewed it.

There are four modules and a pronunciation guide; each has a printable version and a pre- and post-test:

  • Module 1: What is Lyme disease
  • Module 2: Tick-er Tape Parade: What are ticks and what do they look like?
  • Module 3: Keeping ticks at bay when you go out to play
  • Module 4: Testing and treatment for Lyme disease
  • Pronunciation Guide
