LYMEPOLICYWONK: IOM Tells Lyme Community to Zip It--

The IOM finally came out with its agenda after much hemming and hawing and “no comment” responses to patient groups, including CALDA, who asked for transparency. Well, we never got transparency, but we got the agenda for the IOM State of the Science hearing after it was finalized. So, let me give you the score, its 3 for 3 in the final inning in favor of the IDSA. 4 of the 6 panel members are IDSA members. 7 of the speakers were authors on the IDSA guidelines or on the copycat guidelines put out with members of the IDSA panel. 0 ILADS physicians were chosen to speak. Let me repeat that last one, 0, zip, nada, not a single ILADS physician was chosen to speak. Gary Wormser, the focal point of the Connecticut antitrust investigation, is kicking off the show. The IOM sure knows how to cut on the bias. Let’s just hope that no one claims that this was an “independent” and unbiased panel or forum.
